Beat The Monday Blues: Truth about cats - Whiskers

For those who have seen a cat up close, did you notice those long whiskers and wonder about its purpose? Today's video will give you amazing insight into those unassuming facial hair.

Some cat owners have the tendency to trim/pluck their cats' whiskers as they are unaware of its importance. Now that you know how important whiskers are to cats, it's time to leave them alone!

Beat The Monday Blues: Testing your dog's intelligence?

Ever wonder how smart is your dog? These activities shown in the video are one of the few ways to test your dog's intelligence.

Scientists are looking to understand if a dog's higher intelligence equates to better health status as it is similar to humans. To read more about it, click here.

Pet Adoption Friday: Winnie and Rainbow from SPCA

winnie

Age: 4 years 1 month
Breed: Cross breed

rainbow

Name: Rainbow

Breed: Local
Personality: Rainbow is a lovely lady looking for a nice quiet home to call her own. She is very chatty and loves to spend as much time as possible with you showing off her loud purr.

If you are interested to adopt Winnie or Rainbow, do visit them at SPCA's shelter during their opening hours.

Beat The Monday Blues: Priceless pets

Many of us often visit pet shops to check out the adorable pets and wish that we can bring them home. How many of us realize that there are also animals in the shelters who wish to have their very own forever homes?

Quatro Patinhas, a non-governmental organisation in Brazil started a project where they invited a pet store to replace all of its animals with shelter animals for potential pet owners to adopt them. It was a success and the new owners have learnt that love can be free and not necessarily pure (breeds)!

Pet Adoption Friday: Donut and Zane from SOSD

donut

Name: Donut
Sex: Female
Age: 1 year 3 months (1 August 2015)
Breed: Mixed breed
Personality: Donut is shy yet playful. She is a low-energy pup, and would do best with another dog in the house. As she is still on the way to get over her fears, Donut remains timid and takes time to get comfortable with humans. However, she is extremely affectionate with those that she has grown acquainted with, trotting happily towards them and showering them with big wet puppy kisses. Donut is paper-trained, and walks well on leash.

zane

Name: Zane
Sex: Male
Age: 4 months old (1 July 2016)
Breed: Mixed breed
Personality: Zane, like any young puppy under the age of 5 months, requires a clear structure. A structure for a puppy includes, knowing how to behave at home, on a walk, and in any situation. He will also need to be exposed to a variety of sounds, people and dogs. A puppy's first year is the most intense period of their lives. Its equivalent to parenting a child from 0-18 years in the span of a year!

Zane needs a human that will be able to be firm with him. He is NOT recommended for families with children under 12 years of age due to his temperament. Zane has a tendency to get aggressive when he does not get what he wants on his terms.

Zane is a fast learner and he has gone from a hyper puppy to learning to be calm in a month. He's a moderately active dog that will need daily walks and proper mental exercises. Zane's human will need to undergo professional training if they want to adopt him.

If you are interested to adopt Zane or Donut, please register your interest here.

Beat The Monday Blues: Rabbit meets Furminator

This owner has a Flemish Giant named Desmond. This breed is the largest rabbit and it can grow as big as a Shetland Sheepdog! Watch how he combs Desmond and be amazed by the amount of fur shed right after just 10 minutes!

Do you know that rabbits molt every three to four times a year? It is important to brush him frequently (weekly for short-haired breeds; daily for long-haired breeds) to prevent matting. Matting means that the fur is tangled up, forming hairy clumps on the body.

It takes time and patience to brush your rabbit but it's a great way to bond with him. If you need some help with grooming your rabbit, you can pick up some skills by contacting your local rabbit rescue group. In Singapore, you can seek advice from the House Rabbit Society Singapore.
