Pet Care Tips: Why Cats Get Hairballs

There the cat goes... "cough!" and out comes a yucky clump of hairball. What are these and how do you minimise the occurrences? Besides coughing up a hairball, your cat may really be coughing and require medical attention too. How do you tell these two apart?

Beat the Monday Blues: Cooper – the superhero dog!

When three-year-old Carson went missing, his parents couldn't have been more worried. Thanks to Cooper, the family dog, the boy was kept safe throughout the entire time he was gone. Just click play to find out what happened!

A rescued dog, Cooper proved himself that he was part of the family. By protecting the little boy, he did what any other family member would do - looking out for each other.

Just look at those fabulous eyes! Max is affectionate and very friendly with both people and other dogs. He has a great temperament and is a delight to take on walks. Max is looking for a family who has a nice, secure yard to play in and lots and lots of love to give him!

Megan

Name: Megan
Sex: Female
Age: 1 year and 3 months old

Megan loves cuddles, enjoys treats, playtime and also going around to explore. Back in the shelter, she has a really big scratching post and likes to sit on top of it so she can watch everything going on around her.

If you wish to adopt Max or Megan, do visit them at SPCA's shelter during their opening hours:

Viewing Hours - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday - 10.00am to 4.00pm - Sunday and Public Holidays (PH) - 11.00am to 3.30pm - Thursday - Closed (unless it is a Public Holiday) - On the eve of Chinese New Year, Christmas Day and New Year's Day, the shelter, administration office and clinic will close at 12.30pm. Pet Care Tips: How to Clean Tears From a Puppy's Eyes

A puppy's soulful eyes never fail to captivate us. So when they're dirty, they'd need some gentle cleaning. Avoid cross contamination by following the steps in today's video.

Beat the Monday Blues: Love knows no boundaries

Just moments after giving birth to her litter of kittens, a mother cat began nursing three little ducklings (who happened to hatch shortly after) and took them under her care until they were fully grown. Get your tissues ready... (you have been warned)

As the saying goes - love knows no boundaries. Though the ducklings are evidently different, the mother cat loved them the same. Probably a trait that we all can learn from our animal friends

Pet Adoption Friday: Pinky from Noah's Ark CARES

Pollo

Name: Pinky
Age: 8 months old
Sex: Female
Breed: Mongrel
HDB - approved: No

Profile:
Pinky and her siblings were born in a secluded industrial area with very limited food source. The three-legged mother and litter were fortunately rescued and they were given a temporary but loving foster home to be nurtured and to grow.

Pinky is now ready for adoption. She is shy when she meets strangers and other dogs. She is a smart and bright girl who picks up tricks and routines quickly. All this girl wants is a forever home.

Adoption contact details:
Send a Whatsapp message with your name, age and experience with pets to 9270 8612. Interested adopters under the age of 21 must get a parent/guardian to contact Noah's Ark CARES.

Pet Care Tips: What do rabbits eat?

To rabbit lovers, the mass market portrayal of these lagomorphs eating carrots make them go mad. But why? Learn the correct food rabbits should be eating instead in today's video.

Beat the Monday Blues: The Ash-mazing Chinchilla

Ash the chinchilla has come a long way since his days of being in a home where he was short of love. Listen to his care-taker, Jodie, as she gives a recount on Ash's rescue story.

Pets deserve a loving home where they feel safe and protected. Most families regard their pets as a family member. If you share the same sentiment with us, join us at My Pet My Family (link) on 31 October 2015 at Marina Barrage!

Pet Adoption Friday: Faithful Blessing and Haven Boy from MercyLight

Pollo

Name: Faithful Blessing
Age: 1 yr 1 mth old
Sex: Neutered Male

Profile:
Faithful was given up to Mercylight on 8 May 2015 by a group of foreign workers. The workers rescued Faithful when he was a pup and took care of him by giving him leftover food from their daily meals. However, every time their company completed a project, they will have to shift to another location to start on a new project. The workers were worried Faithful may one day be run over by the trucks if he didn't adjust to the new environment in time. There were also other fellow workers who did not like Faithful's presence.

As Faithful is so used to being around humans since young, he settled in very well at his foster home. He is friendly with other dogs, likes to play and knows how to enjoy toys. He is witty and his intelligence never ceases to amaze us when he is up to some funny business. A very affectionate boy who loves attention from humans too.

Chase

Name: Haven Boy
Age: 1 yr 8 mth old (DOB: 4 Feb 2014)
Sex: Neutered Male
Breed: Mixed breed

Profile:
Haven Boy was actually an accidental rescue for us in June 2015 because we were trying to catch the females on heat for sterilization instead. However we have no regrets in doing so because Haven Boy used to sleep in the middle of the road with no sense of the danger from the oncoming traffic. He will only move if the car or truck drivers honked at him.

Once he enters into deep sleep, he is almost oblivious to the happenings around him. This bad habit posed a serious danger to his life because we were constantly worried that there may come a day that the drivers did not see him and run over him. Now we rejoice whenever we see him sleeping like a pig in the shelter in his own dreamland.

He is an outgoing, calm, good tempered and contagiously happy dog who loves walks and sleeps with his 4 legs in the air.

Pet Care Tips: How to bathe a bird

It sounds like a lofty idea that a bird would need a bath. But if most animals need one, why wouldn't your pet bird? Here are some nice ideas to keep your pet bird clean and refreshed!

Beat the Monday Blues: The power of cats!

Here's the thing - some people love cats, others, not so much. Watch how a group of individuals faced their fear/dislike towards cats when they were given a carrier of kittens.

After spending some time with the kittens, these individuals realised cats aren't that bad after all and walked away with a more positive attitude towards our feline friends!
